Your record today

Privacy policy

Last updated 13 October 2026.

Your record today is a Chrome extension from Thede Technologies, LLC. It replaces Chrome's new tab page. Signed in to Tractor and Silo, it shows one memory from this date in an earlier year of your own record. Signed out, it counts down to dates you choose. This page says what it keeps, what it sends, and where.

The short version

  • Your countdown dates never leave the browser.
  • Everything else the extension sends goes to one place: your own Tractor and Silo account, at www.tractorandsilo.com.
  • A photo you choose to reveal loads from Tractor and Silo's own photo storage at Amazon Web Services.
  • The extension has no ads, no analytics and no tracking, and it never reads your browsing.

What stays in this browser

Chrome keeps the extension's storage on your computer. In it:

  • Your session with Tractor and Silo: an access token, a refresh token, and your account's id, email, first name, time zone and whether your subscription is active. Never your password. Kept until you sign out.
  • A random id for this browser, so Tractor and Silo can tell this session from your others.
  • Today's memory. For each earlier year with something on this date: the places (with their coordinates, their city, state and country, and a link to a map of the place when Tractor and Silo has drawn one), times, ratings, weather and the names of the people tagged, the notes for the moment it picked, and the day's summary. Kept until the first new tab of a later day replaces it, or you sign out.
  • The names of up to 200 of the people in your record, refreshed once a week, so the page can blur them. Kept until you sign out.
  • The dates you typed in for the countdowns, until you remove them.
  • The notes you added with "Add the why", and what became of each one: every note not yet confirmed, and the newest confirmed ones, 30 in all. Confirmed notes go when you sign out.

Photo links are never stored. Tractor and Silo signs each one for 15 minutes, and only the open page holds it.

Chrome does not encrypt this storage beyond your computer's own disk encryption, so treat the computer as the boundary.

What goes to Tractor and Silo

The extension talks to one server, www.tractorandsilo.com, the same account you use on the website and the iPhone app.

  • When you sign in, it sends your email and password, this browser's random id, and the name "Chrome new tab". The password is sent once and never stored.
  • To show today's memory, it asks once a day for this date in earlier years, with the words and summary for each of those years: first the year your tab opens on, then the others one at a time, a second and a half apart. Once a week it asks for the names of your people, and a photo you reveal asks once more. When the link it keeps to the map of a place runs out, about a day after Tractor and Silo made it, it asks once more for that moment, for a new link.
  • When you add a note, it sends the text you typed and the time you typed it. While a note waits for your iPhone to send the visit it belongs to, the extension asks whether it has landed, at most once an hour, when you open a new tab. If an answer is lost on the way, it asks which of your notes from that day arrived, at most every five minutes, so a note is never sent twice.
  • When you sign out, it asks Tractor and Silo to end this browser's session.

Each request carries your session token and no cookies. Tractor and Silo keeps a record of this browser's session, named "Chrome new tab", with the IP address and browser it last came from and when. You can see it under Settings, Sessions on the website, and end it there. The session stops working 30 days after the extension last renewed it.

Once a note reaches Tractor and Silo it is part of your account, like anything you add on the website or the iPhone app.

Photos and maps

While the veil is on, the page draws a picture in place of your photo and loads nothing. When you hover over the picture or lift the veil, the extension asks Tractor and Silo for a link to that photo, and Chrome loads the image from Tractor and Silo's own storage at Amazon Web Services: tractorandsilo-production.s3.amazonaws.com, also reached as tractorandsilo-production.s3.us-east-1.amazonaws.com. The request sends no referrer. Like any image on the web, it tells that server your IP address and browser.

When Tractor and Silo has drawn a map of a memory's place, the map takes the picture's place and the photos come up over it when you hover. The map comes from that same storage. Unlike a photo's link, which lasts 15 minutes and is never stored, the map's link lasts about a day and is kept with today's memory until it runs out, so a new tab shows the map without asking again. It shows while the veil is on, since it shows a place, not a person. The small outline of the state or country beside the numbers is drawn from map data inside the extension and asks nothing of anyone.

What it never does

  • It never reads your history, your tabs or any website other than your own account at www.tractorandsilo.com, and it asks Chrome for no permission that would let it.
  • It runs no code from anywhere but its own package, and loads no fonts, scripts or trackers from any other site.
  • It changes nothing about search.
  • Thede Technologies does not sell anything the extension handles, and does not use it for advertising or to decide anyone's credit.

Signed out

Signed out, the extension counts down to your dates and makes no requests at all.

Signing out, and removing it

Signing out deletes your session, today's memory and the names from this browser, and asks Tractor and Silo to end the session there. Your dates stay. A note Tractor and Silo has not confirmed stays too, so it is not lost, and it is checked, never blindly sent again, when you sign back in.

Removing the extension from Chrome deletes everything it stored. It does not end the session on the server, so sign out first, or end the session under Settings, Sessions.

Your account

Your record lives in your Tractor and Silo account, not in the extension. You can export it, or delete the account, from the website's settings.

The Chrome Web Store

The use of information received by Your record today adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Changes

If what the extension keeps or sends changes, this page changes before that version ships, and the date at the top moves.
